Rochester, NY – Imagine being given a second chance, an opportunity for a fresh start. And while this is new start is full of promise, it’s also full of challenges. Home Start Hope helps women overcome some of these challenges, and on Saturday, April 9th, the Rochester community has a chance to join the efforts.

Home Start Hope (HSH) is holding its annual fundraiser, the Black Jack Ball, on Saturday, April 9th at Irondequoit Country Club. The annual event includes a silent and live auction, casino gaming, live music by Teagan and the Tweeds, and more. This year’s theme is masquerade.

Home Start Hope raises funds to provide new, essential household items to women and their children who are transitioning to independent living from Bethany or Sojourner House. Much-needed items such as blankets, pillows, towels, dishes, and are all eligible to be on a shopping “Wish List.”

“Without Home Start Hope, these women would be faced with an enormous financial hardship. Items we take for granted, like laundry baskets and sheets can be cost-prohibitive, especially for women who are on a very limited income as they rebuild their lives from scratch,” said Kristin Mathis, founder, Home Start Hope. “This year, we are focused on purchasing a home for Home Start Hope. With this house, we will be able to further empower women as they will be able to “shop” for items at our house.”

All proceeds from the 2016 Black Jack Ball directly benefit members of the Rochester community, and to-date, more than 250 community members have been served via the Home Start Hope program. More than 90% of the funds raised by Home Start Hope are used to purchase items and help women in the community make a fresh start.

Tickets for the Black Jack Ball are $100 per person. Live auction items include JazzFest tickets, signed Abby Wambach and Buffalo Sabres merchandise, Keith Urban CMAC tickets, and items from names like Kate Spade, Apple, Sony, and more. Plus, items from local artists will be available. Tickets can be purchased online at: https://homestarthope.org/our-events/  or by emailing kmathis1180@gmail.com. The Black Jack Ball is generously sponsored by Comprehensive Mold Management.
